bio

Janine is an Indo-Caribbean-Canadian artist working in video-art, installation and mixed media. She draws on a background in advertising / strategic planning where, for over a decade she bridged conceptual ideas with an interest in human behaviour, cultural dynamics and media consumption. She has worked with ad agencies in New York, Bangkok, Toronto and Paris on numerous local and international brands.

She has exhibited in the CONTACT Photography Festival (2009) and had her experimental film debut with the COMMFFEST Film Festival in Toronto (2009). Collaborative videoart installations have subsequently been shown in alternative venues such as the Coupe Bizarre Hair Salon Toronto for nuit blanche (2009). Her most recent video installation was at ‘The Annual’ (2011), a juried group show at the Living Arts Centre Gallery (Mississauga) in collaboration with SAVAC (South Asian Visual Art Centre).

Her mixed media work has been included in private collections in Toronto and New York.

In her community development work, she fuses creative experimentation and strategy to create paradigm shifts across organizations, sectors and communities with the intention of inducing behavioural and societal changes. She actively pilots experimental approaches with willing arts and education non-profits.
